Northern Link Culture Vultures
is a network of single people who enjoy films, plays, classical and
art galleries and the like. Typically we arrange singles visits to
venues such as the Library, Lowry and Royal Exchange theatres, the
Bridgewater Hall and the new arts centre, HOME. In
Liverpool we go to
the Playhouse and Everyman theatres and the picturehouse at FACT.
In Bolton we go to the Octagon theatre. In Preston we go to the
Playhouse and the Guild Hall. We are also widening our reach to other
cultural venues in the region, in Lancaster and Oldham for example.
programme for Autumn 2014 - Spring 2015 now available
Northern Link Culture Vultures is a social activity for singles as much as a cultural network, we
always meet beforehand for a meal (usually something quick and
inexpensive like an Italian) and often go for a drink afterwards.
We operate on a
not-for-profit basis. To attend our events regularly, you must first be a
member of Northern Link,
the singles social network in the North West. But you can try
us out and attend two events before you commit to joining.
You can now
book and pay online
for some events
by clicking the "Add to Cart" button next to an event on the
What's On page. Please use this, as it's a lot less effort for
the organisers than taking phone calls.
Please remember to
early - especially for Saturday events. We cannot buy tickets
after the cut-off date or without your payment.
One purpose of this website
is to allow us to add extra events and provide additional
information - something we can't do in the printed Northern Link
programme because of problems with space and also the fact that we have
to set out the Link Culture Vultures programme about five months ahead.
So please check back occasionally to see what we added.
Northern Link now require
us to ask to see your membership card at each event (unless you are a
trial new member). Please make sure you bring it with you.
Please also quote your Membership Number when booking.
Can I come to a Link
Culture Vultures play, film, concert or other event even if I'm not
a member of the Northern Link singles network?
Yes. You are
entitled to come to two events as a taster before you join, but we
will need full contact details from you.
Why do you have a
cut-off date for bookings? Very simply we need to be able
to buy tickets in a block, if we can. After all, these are
intended as social events for singles and they don't work very well
if our group is sprinkled all round the theatre, cinema or concert
hall in twos and threes.
Can I buy my own
ticket? Yes, it's a free country, but what's the point?
You won't be sitting with the group. We often get group
discounts for plays or concerts, which we pass on to everyone who
books with us. We have had instances where our group was just
too small to qualify for a discount because some people had booked
direct, so that day everyone lost out.
We are a group of
friends, can we book as a group? Yes, of course, but
expect to be mixed with other members during the meal and in the
theatre or concert hall during the performance. The whole
point of a singles group is to socialise with other people.
I can't get there in
time for the meal - is that a problem? If you miss the
meal, you miss half the event, but we appreciate that people may
have to travel some distance. If we are expecting you for the
meal but you are running late, please call the organiser. We
may have had to move on and we can't hold up the rest of the group
Can you send me my
tickets? We are not a booking agency and are run by volunteers
on a not-for-profit basis; if you do not wish to meet other members
of the group, please buy your own tickets.
I've booked but I
can't come - do I get my money back? Sorry, no. Very
few theatres, cinemas or concert halls offer refunds. If we've
already booked a ticket for you we will see if we can find someone
to take it, but otherwise that's down to you. Similarly if we
have booked your ticket for the play, concert or film but you have
not yet paid us, you still need to pay. This is a non-profit
group run by unpaid volunteers, so we cannot afford to make a loss.
I'd like to go to a
particular play, film or concert, but it's not on the programme -
can you add it? Yes, although it's probably too late to
put it in the Northern Link brochure, we can add extra events to
this website. Even better if you would like to be the
organiser for that event yourself.
